Above is the trailer for the movie Child 44, a movie about a child murderer in the Stalin-era Soviet Union at a time when communism and capitalism were at extreme odds and an era wherein murder was believed to be an affliction only of the West (according to the trailer). This movie will follow the actions of Leo Demidov as he investigates the murder of 44 children along the train tracks of the Soviet Union, set against a backdrop of political intrigue and period scandal.
This movie stars Tom Hardy (Inception) as MGB (the Soviet secret police) agent Leo Demidov as he investigates the murders committed by Andre Chikatilo, the real life murderer who was executed for 52 deaths across the Soviet Union. He stars alongside Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) as his wife Raisa, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as General Mikhail Nesterov, and Joel Kinneman (The Killing) as Vasil.
This movie is an adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s novel of the same name, a fictionalized version of the real-life events and the murders committed by Chikatilo, also known as the Rostov Ripper, the Butcher of Rostov, and the Red Ripper. While investigating these heinous murders, Demidov also goes up against a government that, according to Soviet custom, believes that in a communist state there is no crime, forcing him to investigate these murders largely without help and while facing a system that wants nothing more than to cover it all up.
Produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), Child 44 is scheduled for release on April 17, 2015. You can check out the movie’s poster here.
