There has been a lot of DCEU-related news recently, with the announcement that Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cut of Justice League finally happening, but the news doesn’t stop there. Henry Cavill, best most known for playing Superman, will return to reprise his character in upcoming DCEU films.
Cavill made his debut as the hero in Man of Steel, the first film to kick off Warner Brother’s response to Marvel’s cinematic universe. The film was marked with mixed reviews, but was financially successful enough to continue the universe. However, after the panning of its sequel Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the failure of Justice League, the fate of Superman was left in question, with future DCEU films set to be less connected than originally planned.
According to Deadline, Cavill’s possible reprisal of Superman does not mean a Man of Steel 2 will happen anytime soon. Speculation seems to imply that his role in the franchise going forward will mainly being as a cameo appearance, minus a below-neck tease at the end of Shazam! Since Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad are already done, and Superman isn’t expected to make a cameo in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Other projects where Cavill could cameo are Shazam 2, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam or Aquaman 2.
Cavill is expected to return for the reshoots necessary to complete ‘The Snyder Cut’ of Justice League, hopefully this time without the dreaded, mustache-covering CGI.
