With the growth of social media’s role in film/television marketing and advertising, it would make sense that casting announcements would begin to take advantage of the same medium. It seems Henry Cavill and Mission Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie have done just that by announcing via Instagram that Cavill will be joining the cast of the upcoming M:I 6 – Mission Impossible.
McQuarrie made the ‘official’ announcement on Thursday evening via a suspicious Instagram post on his own page (the picture is just of McQuarrie wearing a black jacket standing on a cliff overlooking a river).
The conversation included the following comments:
McQuarrie: “Say, @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you’re interested in a role in the 6th installment of ‘Mission: Impossible’. No pressure.”
Cavill: “How can I say no to a man with such perfect hair…..”
McQuarrie: “@henrycavill excellent. Just a few caveats: must enjoy extreme heights, high speeds, motor vehicles of all varieties (especially aircraft), practical stunts, firearms, and sporadic exposition. All good?”
Cavill: “@christophermcquarrie only if I get to fly for real.”
McQuarrie: “@henrycavill I do believe I specified practical stunts. You in?”
Cavill: “Oh ok…..I’m in!”
McQuarrie: “@henrycavill Outstanding. Welcome aboard. Your social media account will self destruct in 5 seconds.”
The conversation was cut up by over 250+ comments from fans, who were mostly very excited by the revelation! Cavill is most well-known for portraying ‘Superman/Clark Kent’ in films Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and upcoming Justice League. He also is signed on for the sequel Justice League film.
Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby are already confirmed to star in this 6th installment. Jeremy Renner is expected to return as he allegedly has one more movie commitment on his contract. The production development was delayed when there was disagreement between Cruise and Paramount Pictures over Cruise’s payment for this film, following Universal raising his payment for upcoming summer blockbuster The Mummy.
M:I 6 – Mission Impossible is due in US theaters on Jul 27, 2018.
