Shortly after announcing that David Frankel (Hope Springs) would be directing the New Line film Collateral Beauty, the studio is working on negotiations to nab Helen Mirren (The Queen) to star alongside Will Smith in the upcoming film, according to Variety.
Allan Loeb (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) has penned the script, featuring Smith as a New York ad man whose employees set up a scheme to try to lift him out of a depression. As part of this scheme, his friends hire an actress, played by Mirren.
Mirren spent her 2015 appearing in three films – the post-Nazi era drama Woman in Gold, the drone warfare movie Eye in the Sky, and the Hollywood blacklist bio Trumbo. If this deal is confirmed, it will be the first project on Mirren’s schedule for the new year.
Collateral Beauty is slated to start filming in New York in early 2016.
