After a few years out of the spotlight, Hayden Christensen, best known for his role as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, is returning to studio film in Rob Cohen’s Marco Polo. From Paramount and several Chinese companies, including China Film Group and Yuehua Entertainment, the film appears to follow the Venetian merchant’s journey to China.
Polo’s 24-year journey was later chronicled in a book, simply titled The Travels of Marco Polo. Polo’s accounts are considered to be some of the first records of Chinese culture introduced to Europeans after his 13th-century adventure. Christensen will star as the title character.
Rob Cohen is known for movies such as The Fast and the Furious and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,. As the movie is currently in pre-production, there is little news regarding other crew members as well as who will be joining Christensen on-screen. Rather than a truly historical adventure, the movie is being marketed as an action-fantasy, suggesting that Marco Polo might be seeing some supernatural elements on his trip through the Far East.
