Harry Styles has dropped out of Robert Eggers’s remake of Nosferatu after being briefly attached to the project due to scheduling conflicts, as first reported by The New Yorker. A representative of Styles has confirmed the news to Variety. Nosferatu would have cast the Grammy winner and Dunkirk actor alongside Anya Taylor-Joy had he not pulled out of the project.
Variety first reported in 2017 that The Witch and The Lighthouse director Robert Eggers had plans to remake the horror film Nosferatu; he had plans to cast Anya Taylor-Joy after working with her on The Witch. She also stars in his upcoming project, The Northman, which hits theatres on April 22nd. Eggers plans to reimagine F. W. Murnau’s iconic 1922 vampire film.
As for Styles, taking the role in the film would’ve added to his growing filmography, which includes Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (2017), Chloe Zhao’s Enternals (2021), in which he appeared in the post-credits scene as Marvel’s Eros, Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling with Florence Pugh and Michael Grandage’s My Policeman, both of which are set to come out later this year. The latter has Styles playing the love interest in a gay romance story alongside The Crown breakout star Emma Corrin.
Before his films arrive later this year, Styles is releasing his third solo studio album, Harry’s House, which will release on May 20th. The first single from Harry’s House is titled As It Was and will be released this Friday, April 1st.
