Joel Coen recruits one of his own, as the renowned Coen Brother has signed The Legend Of Buster Scruggs and Harry Potter actor Harry Melling onto his upcoming adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic Macbeth according to Deadline.
Cohen will be directing Macbeth without the partnership of his brother Ethan, marking a first attempt at directing by himself. Production for the film is expected to commence around the middle of February. Melling will be assuming the role of antagonist Malcolm, the son of a previous Scottish king named Duncan who, in Shakespeare work, threatens to end Macbeth’s regime.
The film will boast two Oscar-winning actors in Denzel Washington, who’s currently slated to star as Macbeth and Frances McDormand as his Machiavellian wife Lady Macbeth. Other castings include Brendan Gleeson as Duncan and Corey Hawkins as Macduff, while Ralph Ineson will be playing an unspecified role. The film will serve as the ninth collaboration with his wife McDormand.
There has been no announcement yet as to who will be portraying other famous characters of Macbeth, such as the three witches or Banquo. Scott Rudin will be producing the film with supervision by A24. Further details such as a release date have yet to be confirmed.
