Famed movie composer, Hans Zimmer appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote his new film, Hans Zimmer & Friends: Diamond in the Desert. The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced film includes a massive orchestral performance and conversations with Billie Eilish, Sir Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, Finneas, Jerry Bruckheimer, Johnny Marr, Pharrell Williams, Tanya Lapointe, Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
On the podcast, the Gladiator composer mentioned his decision to pass on working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Host Josh Horowitz asked him if he’s “superheroed” out as Zimmer composed music for The Dark Knight trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Wonder Woman 1984 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Zimmer replied:
“Look, I’ve done the trifecta. I’ve done Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman! I mean, what do you want me to do? Some of the minor characters? Probably yes.”
He attributed the decision to the timing and to a desire to look for other projects. With no shortage of blockbuster successes behind the scenes, Zimmer described how Marr and Williams had to convince him to confront his stage fright and bring his talents to the big stage: “Since I have absolutely no stage craft, as you have found out, but what I do have, is I have a great desire to communicate with people.”
The film will screen in theaters starting in mid March for a limited time.
