Halle Berry to Star in New Sci-Fi Epic from Rolland Emmerich

Oscar-winner Halle Berry is set to star in new Lionsgate sci-fi epic alongside Josh GadThe film will be helmed by Roland Emmerich, best known for his disaster films including 2012Independence Day, and The Day After Tomorrow

Berry stars as a NASA astronaut-turned-administrator who is faced with a crisis of impending doom. Her character’s previous missions with NASA hold the key to surviving this crisis, while Gad stars as an eccentric genius who believes that the moon has fallen out of orbit. The two must assemble a ragtag team that must save the world before it is too late.

Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen co-wrote the script, all of whom previously penned 2012 together. Additionally, both men will serve as producers. Emmerich will produce the film under his Centropolis banner, and Kloser is producing through his company Street Entertainment.

The film is currently untitled, but Lionsgate is hoping to release the film in 2021, and the team hopes to begin filming in the fall. However, due to coronavirus and social distancing precautions, production may be delayed. It’s an ironic statement, given the nature of Emmerich’s genre of expertise proving a threat in real life to his filmography. Production for the film will occur in Montreal.
