The Jake Gyllenhaal led American Remake The Guilty has surprisingly added start power just a head of its shoot. The film, recently acquired by Netflix for $30 million, has added Ethan Hawke(The Good Lord Bird), Peter Sarsgaard(The Batman), Paul Dano(The Batman), Riley Keough(The Devil All the Time), Byron Bowers(Honey Boy), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph(Dolemite is my Name).
These are not the only castings for the once expected small cast and crew. Comedian Bill Burr(The Opening Act) is also attached in addition to Beau Knapp(The Nice Guys), David Castañeda (The Umbrella Academy), Christina Vidal (United We Fall), and Adrian Martinez(Lady and the Tramp). It is important to note that these are not small castings. These are all significant actors that have shared either supporting or main roles in popular media within the last decade.
The film is based off a Danish film with the same name. The story follows police dispatcher Joe Bayler(Gyllenhaal) answering an emergency call, but soon the call unravels into a greater crime than once expected. With these casting announcements, it is clear that the story will be expanded from the Danish version, which took place in one room over a single day.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua(Training Day) and written by Nik Pizzolatto(True Detective) the film brings star power behind and in front of the camera. It will be interesting to see where all of these actors fit into this world. Especially considering the original focused so heavily on the police dispatcher.
The film is slated to start shooting at some point this month and it is safe to assume that it will start streaming on Netflix late 2021 or early 2022.
