Gus Van Sant’s New Indie Film Could Be A Contender At The Sundance Film Festival

Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot, a memoir turned movie from Gus Van Sant, premieres this week at the Sundance Film Festival before heading to the Berlin Film Festival next month. This will be the second time that actor Joaquin Phoenix and Van Sant will have worked together, To Die For was the previous movie which was a breakout role for Phoenix.

The story follows the life of John Callahan before and after a car crash that leaves him a paraplegic. He turns to cartoon drawing  as a form of therapy, but the controversial content of the cartoon strips ends up making waves in his own hometown.  He also struggles with alcoholism which is what cause the crash and Jonah Hill plays his AA coach which supports him through new discoveries, frustrations, and ultimately his new life in a wheelchair. The film has a stellar supporting cast with Rooney Mara and Jack Black.

Amazon Studios is releasing it on May 11 in theatres. Watch the preview below.
