Guillermo del Toro Announces More ‘Pacific Rim’

Guillermo del Toro announced via a brief YouTube clip that we will be seeing more Jeager versus Kaiju action on both the big and small screens in the not-too-distant future. The announcement comes after several months of hints and teases that del Toro and Legendary Pictures hope to make Pacific Rim into a franchise.

First, an animated series set in the world of Pacific Rim will be “in development” until April 2017, and will presumabl, conclude that month with the release of Pacific Rim 2. The comic book series will also continue to expand on the world. Del Toro promises “more Jeagers and more Kaiju kicking each other’s butt.”

Travis Beacham, who helped del Toro write Pacific Rim, will return to write the sequel along with Zak Penn, who helped write the story for The Avengers. There hasn’t been any word regarding the cast though it’s still very early. Guillermo del Toro’s next film, Crimson Peak, stars Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, and Pacific Rim’s leading man, Charlie Hunnam. It opens on October 15, 2015.
