‘Greyhound’ Trailer Released, Featuring Tom Hanks vs. Nazi U-Boats

Sony Pictures has dropped the first official trailer for their war drama GreyhoundDirected by Aaron Schneider and adapted from C.S. Forester’s novel The Good Shepherd, the film stars Tom Hanks, who also penned the screenplay, alongside Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan and Elisabeth Shue.

Greyhound is set during the early days of World War II in 1942. The film revolves around captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) who leads an international convoy of 37 Allied ships in his first command on a U.S. destroyer. The crew crosses the turbulent North Atlantic waters while being pursued by enemy Nazi U-boats.

The trailer begins with Ernest praying in a voiceover as he and his team prepare to head to the rough sea: “Dear Lord, let your holy angel be with me.” During the journey, Ernest and his team encounter their enemies, but are successful at shooting the U-boat. Although the five-day journey gets off to a successful start, Ernest soon realizes that they’re in grave danger when Nazi U-boats continue to attack their team of ships, losing seven ships in 48 hours. The rest of the trailer portrays an intense montage of U.S. passengers shooting at their enemies while frantically trying to survive each day on the relentlessly treacherous waters to England.

Greyhound was originally scheduled for release on May 8, 2020, but was just announced that the release date has been pushed back to June 12. According to studio insiders, the move had nothing to do with concerns surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, which has affected other film releases like No Time to Die.
