Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Reboot Secures Theatrical Release Window

With Netflix constantly searching for a strong fantasy franchise, Greta Gerwig is hoping to meet the mark with her upcoming Narnia reboot.  Bringing C.S. Lewis’ work to life, Gerwig pushed hard for Netflix to secure a theatrical release for the film, resulting in the film being delayed, but Gerwig’s wish being granted.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is set to release in theaters February 12, 2027, also securing an IMAX release starting on February 10.  The film will not drop on Netflix until April 2, marking Netflix’s first time giving a film a 45-day theatrical window.  Gerwig was quoted on the matter, revealing her appreciation for Netflix’s flexibility.

“Working with Netflix to bring this film to life has been extraordinary, and IMAX continues to be an incredible partner… I cannot wait for people to see the film in theaters on February 12 and on Netflix on April 2.”

The film is set to star David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, Ciarán Hinds, and Meryl Streep.  Producing the film will be Gerwig, Amy Pascal, Mark Gordon, Christine Crais, and Vincent Sieber.  Gerwig also penned the script and took the time to praise original writer C.S. Lewis for the source material and what it has meant to her.

“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life. I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being. Because of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me… It transformed me.”

Stay tuned to MXDWN for any future developments on the film.
