Gorilla Warfare Ensues in New ‘War For the Planet of the Apes’ Trailer and Poster

Apes. Together. Strong.

After a sneak peek at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, 20th Century Fox has unleashed the new trailer and poster for this Summer’s primate-populated epic, War for the Planet of the Apes.

After the war started in 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the ape leader Caesar, played though motion-capture by Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Avengers: Age of Ultron), finds new human rival in Woody Harrelson (Wilson, Zombieland) as a ruthless colonel of the armed forces that seek to take out Casear’s clan of hyper-intellegent apes. This will result in a grand-scale battle for dominance over the planet and given how the world Charlton Heston encounters is in the original 1968 film, the odds don’t appear to be in our species’ favor.

Dawn director Matt Reeves returns to direct the conclusion of the prequel trilogy started in 2011 with Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Reeves is also set to direct the caped crusader himself in The Batman, starring Ben Affleck, for Warner Bros.

In addition to Serkis and Harrelson, the film will also feature Steve Zahn, Gabriel Chavarria, Terry Notary, Karin Konoval, and a whole mess of brilliantly photo-realistic digital apes of all kinds.

The war begins in theaters on July 14th.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
