Hosted by Seth Meyers and airing live on NBC at 5 pm pacific standard time, the night proved to be full of surprises as actors and advocates came out to the 75th Annual Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton. From the opening monologue to the special million dollar grant given by the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press, Maher Tatna, the night promised big things for all who awaited the coveted award. Here is a summary of the awards given out and the great moments shared.
The film Three Billboards Outside Ebbings Missouri took Best Motion Picture Drama as well as Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell, Best Actress for Frances McDormand, Best Screenplay and the coveted best motion picture, drama – all in all totaling four wins.
Lady Bird also faired well as it brought home a win for actress Saoirse Ronan as well as took the title of Best Picture for a comedy or musical.
The Shape of Water also took two wins for best original score as well as Guillermo Del Toro’s first win for Best Director.
The animated film Coco took best animated feature and the musical The Greatest Showman took best original song for “This Is Me”. And Oprah Winfrey was honored by Reese Witherspoon with the coveted Cecil B. Demill award as the first African American Woman to receive this honor.
The room was attired in nearly all black in light of the recent sexual assault charges and it was the highlight of the night as nearly every single speech touched on some aspect of the movement.
