After two weekends at the box office, Godzilla vs. Kong has solidified its position as the king of the pandemic box office with $69.5 million. Worldwide, the film has already grossed a whopping $350 million.
The film stars Millie Bobby Brown and Alexander Skarsgård as a few of the humans who watch the epic duel between two of cinema’s most iconic monsters. It’s directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein.
The film has done especially well in China, grossing $165.4 million since its release, with Australia, Mexico and Taiwan making up the other top markets. The fact that the film has done so well at theaters even with it being available on HBO Max is a sign that moviegoers still value the theatrical experience, especially when it comes to blockbuster films with large-scale action.
“We’re thrilled that Godzilla vs. Kong is bringing audiences back into theaters where they are open around the world, and also delivering for our HBO Max subscribers in their homes here in the U.S.,” said chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, Toby Emmerich. “It’s truly a pleasure for all of us at Warner Bros. and HBO Max to be able to thank and congratulate Adam, Legendary and the entire ‘GvK’ team on the great results for this terrific movie.”
Godzilla vs. Kong is currently available in theaters and on HBO Max.
