Dean Devlin, who is best known for working with Roland Emmerich as the co-writer and producer for Independence Day and Godzilla (1998), is making his directorial debut with Geostorm. The film is being released by Warner Bros. Pictures and stars an ensemble cast including Gerard Butler (300), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe), Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch), Andy Garcia (Passengers), and Ed Harris (HBO series Westworld).
The plot follows the idea that a group of satellites can control the Earth’s weather. When the satellites malfunction and cause devastating destruction on major cities, Gerard Butler is sent in to investigate the reason. It appears that someone is controlling the satellites and it’s a race against the clock to stop whomever is behind this and stop the world from being destroyed by an epic storm known only as the “Geostorm.”
This will mark the first time that Skydance Media and Warner Bros. Pictures have joined forces to co-produce a film. Dean Devlin co-writes, produces, and helms this picture as director. Paul Guyot (C0-executive producer and writer for The Librarians) also co-writes. “The world will be taken by storm,” is the film’s tagline, so prepare for world ending disasters. The film is scheduled to be released on October 20th, 2017
