Deadline is reporting that six time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close, will become part of the MARVELous family, joining the cast of the James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy. The casting may seem a little out of left field, but as we reported Tuesday, this movie is the left field of the Marvel movie universe.
Glenn Close’s role will be that of the head cop of an organization called NOVA Corps. NOVA Corps is a Space Militia and Exploration group for the planet Xander, an intergalactic police force appearing throughout the Marvel universe. It has around 500 members and each member has access to a power source called NOVA Force. The part is being compared to Samuel L. Jackson’s, Nick Fury in the Avengers movie.
Production will start in London in one month, where Glenn will join fellow cast mates: Chris Pratt as Pete Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as the green Gamora, Michael Rooker as the villain Yondu, Dave Bautista as Drax, Lee Pace, and John C. Reilly. She will also have to share the screen with Rocket Racoon, an animal hybrid and guardian of the galaxy’s criminally insane.
It has been 9 years since Glenn has done a studio picture (Stepford Wives), spending her time making the TV series Damages, and indie films. She has just finished the indie film Lowdown, and is presently wrapping up Five to Seven, with Anton Yelchin and Frank Langella.
You can catch Glenn’s one on one interview with Piers Morgan, airing tonight at 9pm ET/6pm PT on CNN.
Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014.
