John Logan, the three-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind The Aviator, Hugo and Gladiator, is set to make his feature directorial debut with Blumhouse, Whistler Camp. The film is reportedly a queer empowerment story set at a gay conversion camp.
The film is currently casting and will be produced by Jason Blum and Michael Aguilar. Logan will also write the film and Ryan Turek will oversee the project for Blumhouse.
Logan’s writing credits include other recognizable titles like Skyfall, Spectre, The Last Samurai, Sweeney Todd, Rango, Alien: Covenant and Any Given Sunday. He created the Showtime horror series, Penny Dreadful and is also known for his play Red which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2010.
Even during the pandemic, Blumhouse hasn’t slowed down at all. The studio currently has quite a few films in production, including the next Halloween sequel, Halloween Kills, the next Purge sequel, The Forever Purge, and Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone.
Although Logan hasn’t won an academy award, his credits speak for themselves. He’s been behind the writing in some of the most recognizable features of the last 20 years. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit longer until a release date is set for Whistler Camp.
