Ghetto Film School And Fifth Season Distribute Annual Award

Ghetto Film School and Fifth Season have distributed their yearly Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award. The award was given out March 1st, for the fifth consecutive year. 

Ghetto Film School sent a casting call for people to apply between the ages of 18 and 34. Those who get in are inducted into a three-month program to craft a short film of their own. Those within the program are given the prompt of “technological transformations” to build their film around. 

According to Hollywood Reporter, the finalists for the award were Octavia Anderson, Jonathan Estrada-Salazar, Celine Eva, Jeanine Fiser, Kaylen Ng, Miguel Ramirez, Kat Torres. and Britt Williams. The award was presented to Kaylen Ng for The Metamorphosis Project. 

The Audience Award, given out along with the Frieze Los Angeles Film Award, was given to Britt Williams for Soft Launch. 

On top of the accolades, a monetary prize was given to the two recipients as well, with Ng and Williams verting $10,000 and $2,500, respectively. 

The directors were chosen by a board of those involved in different facets of the program, including Jose Dávila, Claudio de Sanctis, Christine Messineo, Julio Quintana, Amet Shukla, Mina Baban, the VP of Fifth Season, and Montea Robinson, CEO of Ghetto Film School. 

The CEO of Ghetto Film School, Montea Robinson, went on to say, “Thanks to the Frieze Art Fair and Deutsche Bank, each of our filmmakers has had the opportunity to be inspired by and debut original work within a world-renowned international art fair.” 

She continued, “in a moment where storytelling continues to cross medium and format, this program offers a unique relevance and visibility for their talents. This union of personal exploration and broadened horizons invariably results in films that push boundaries, challenge expectations and inspire audiences.”
