

Gerry Rich, the head of United Artists Releasing and head of theatrical marketing for Amazon MGM Studios has recently resigned. As Rich began merging MGM and Annurpurna in 2019 for United Artists, he segued a top marketing job for Amazon by buying MGM for 8.5 billion dollars in 2022. In the last six years, Rich has overseen the releases for box office hits such as Beekeeper, Challengers, and No Time To Die.
In other coincidental yet unrelated news, Amazon recently secured the grasp of the James Bond franchise this past Thursday, sidelining producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Rich was notable for securing releases with MGM during the 1990s with the Pierce Brosnan James Bond era in addition to No Time To Die which was the most recent 007 film.
Rich began his career working for Columbia Pictures during the 1980s until he began as the head of Miramax in the early 2000s with hits including Kill Bill and Gangs of New York. He then served as president for Paramount Pictures of worldwide motion picture marketing with other successes, such as Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda and Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull.
Gerry Rich wrote a farewell letter to his staff that is fully available on The Hollywood Reporter that closes with,
“And to my friends at Amazon MGM Studios, old and new, thank you for welcoming me into the Company after the acquisition of the MGM. I’ve enjoyed our collaboration and am looking forward to seeing this incredible slate of films get out into the world. I’ll always be rooting for you all.
