First-time director Dean Devlin (screenwriter for Independence Day and 1998’s Godzilla) is stacking the deck for his debut, Geostorm. With Gerard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen) already attached to star, Jim Sturgess (The Way Back), Abbie Cornish (RoboCop), Ed Harris (Snowpiercer) and Andy Garcia (Rob the Mob) are all in talks to join the sci-fi disaster film.
Geostorm centers on Butler’s character, a satellite designer whose services are required when the earth’s climate-controlling satellites begin to malfunction. While a literal storm of epic proportions looms on the horizon, a presidential assassination plot is also uncovered creating the metaphorical “perfect storm” of potential catastrophes.
In order to save the world, Butler must team up with his estranged brother (Sturgess), whose girlfriend happens to work for the secret service (Cornish). Harris will play the Secretary of State while Garcia will serve as President of the United States.
Production on Geostorm is expected to begin this October in New Orleans.
