George Lucas To Lend His Voice In ‘Minions & Monsters’

Official trailer for 'Minions & Monsters' in theaters July 1st

Star Wars creator George Lucas will officially be lending his voice to the upcoming Minions & Monsters from Illumination. The news was made official by Illumination’s CEO, Chris MeChris Meledandri, who, in an interview with Collider, stated that Lucas has joined the animated feature as part of the voice cast.

Meledandri stated in the interview that Lucas has had an affinity for Illumination’s animated movies for quite some time, saying, “I had this privilege of meeting George about two years ago, and what led to my meeting him is how much he loves Illumination movies, and specifically Despicable Me, and even more specifically, the Minions.” “It was such a thrill to learn that and then to share it with the team,” he also said, “because obviously he’s among a very small group of people who the entire studio shares a level of respect for that is just off the charts.”

Meledandri went on to explain in the interview that after this meeting with Lucas, he pitched the idea of casting Lucas in a voice role for Minions & Monsters to the film’s director, Pierre Coffin, the co-writer Brian Lynch, and fellow producer, Bill Ryan, leading to his casting. Meledandri also states in the interview that Lucas also wants to voice a character in the next Minions movie.

In addition to George Lucas, the voice cast of Minions & Monsters includes Jesse Eisenberg, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Trey Parker, and Phil LaMarr.

Minions & Monsters will be released in theaters on July 1st.
