George Floyd: Daddy Changed The World, a family-authorized biopic of George Floyd, his life, and how he became a symbol against police brutality, is now being partnered on by Radar Pictures, 8 Queen Film & Media Productions, and Night Fox Entertainment. According to Deadline reporting Gregory R. Anderson, best known for his work on Stomp the Yard and Family Business on Netflix, will be writing the screenplay.
No director has been chosen, but Ted Feild, Dr. Kaeita Rankin, and Timothy Christian will respectively produce for Radar Pictures, 8 Queens, and Night Fox. George Floyd’s daughter Gianna Floyd and wife Roxie Washington will serve as executive producers on the film.
The project’s announcement comes just before the fourth anniversary of Floyd’s death on May 25th. The film promises to offer a deeper understanding of Floyd’s life and who he was as a person as well as narrate the events that led up to his death at the hands of police officers. “The killing of George Floyd was a tragic, shameful moment in our nation’s history,” Christian of Night Fox said. “His story, while painful, deserves to be told and I’m grateful to be a part of it.”
8 Queen’s Rankin shared a similar sentiment, promising to use this platform to share Floyd’s story to inspire change and share what marginalized communities go through. “We need to make changes swiftly. No other child should lose their father like Gianna did. We thank everyone who stood with us and protested. George’s legacy will live on through this film,” Washington said.
