Good Boys’ opening weekend reeled in $21 million for Universal to top the Box Office with the film exceeding its estimated release range of $12-$15 million and currently eyeing to become the best original comedy opening for 2019. The film stars Keith L. Williams, Brady Noon, and Jacob Tremblay, with a screenplay co-written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. With Good Boys topping the list and Hobbs and Shaw at number two, this marks an absolute win for Universal Pictures
The film also marks a directorial debut for Gene Stupnitsky, who brings the first R-rated comedy for Universal to make number one at the Box Office since 2016’s the Boss. As critics and audiences continue to be receptive towards the Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg produced movie, Good Boys looks to keep the train moving for Universal for the next coming weeks.
After Good Boys and Hobbes and Shaw, Disney’s The Lion King placed at number three drawing in $11.9 million on its fifth week in the box office. Landing at the four spot was the Angry Bird 2, which also debuted this week and grossed $10.5 million, under-performing its first movie three years ago which landed $38 million. Rounding out the top five is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with $10 million.
