Gemma Chan Will Act in ‘Captain Marvel’

Per the Hollywood Reporter, Gemma Chan will be working alongside Brie Larson in Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel film. The movie also stars Jude Law as Walter Lawson (the first Captain Marvel), and Ben Mendelsohn as the big, bad guy (rumored to be Yon-Rogg).

Chan is best known for performing in Humans on AMC, though she also had roles in Transformers: The Last Knight and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In Captain Marvel, she will play a character named Captain Minnerva, who comes to Earth in order to mate with Jude Law (er, his character). It is her noble intention to advance the genetic code of the alien race known as the Kree (no fair, that’s my best pick-up line). She is super-strong, she can fly, and she has the ability to hone in on peoples’ energy signatures on a planet-wide radius. Oh, and she’s evil.

Captain Marvel is Marvel’s first attempt at a solo, female-centric Marvel Cinematic Universe film. The plot is being kept under lock and key, but based on her origin story in the comics we can assume that it will involve Carol Danvers (Larson) getting caught in an explosion with Kree superhero Captain Marvel (aka Walter Lawson, aka Jude Law). Danvers receives superpowers as result of the explosion, and her DNA merges with Captain Marvel’s. Basically there will be lots of merging with Jude Law.

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
