Following the conclusion of Andor, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story saw a surge in popularity. With the newly revitalized interest in the film, director Gareth Edwards shares more of his own experiences during his trip to a galaxy far, far away.
Serving as a direct prequel to the original Star Wars, Rogue One chronicles the efforts of the Rebellion in their fight against the Galactic Empire. Upon catching wind of a new super weapon being constructed by the Empire, a small band of Rebels have to race against time to get to the bottom of the disastrous creation, and find a means to stop it before it can stop them.
A critical and financial hit, Rogue One is held in high regard among the Star Wars community, now even more so after Andor expanded greatly upon one of the main leads. Upon the film’s release, however, headlines started to crop up about issues with the film behind the scenes, speculating interference from the studio, as Variety noted.
Despite the reports, Edwards told The Business that what was said was highly immaculate. “Tony [Gilroy] came in, and he did a lot of great work, for sure. No doubt about it. But we all worked together until the entire last minute of that movie.”
On the other hand, Edwards himself doesn’t agree with the praise that Rogue One had been given. He stated he disagrees with it being the best of the Star Wars films to come from Disney, but he didn’t shrug off the praise either, making it clear that he greatly appreciates what people say about it. He would also tell Business Insider that in spite of the acclaim, he will not be returning to the series, either.
