Arya Stark: Zombie Hunter? Looks that way, as Game of Thrones fan favorite Maisie Williams has signed on to star in the film adaptation of the best-selling post-apocalyptic YA novel The Forest of Hands and Teeth penned by first-time author Carrie Ryan.
Williams may star as Mary, one of a group of survivors who were not afflicted by a plague that has reduced most of mankind to bloodthirsty cannibals. Living in a walled-off village for safety, Mary seeks life outside the fences and leads a band of like-minded survivors on a quest to the ocean, and hopefully, to freedom.
Writer/director Kate Maberly will adapt Ryan’s novel and make her feature directorial debut. Maberly is producing with Doug Liman (director of Edge of Tomorrow) through her Hetherwood Productions production company. Maberly is a British actress who has appeared in such films as The Secret Garden (1993) and Finding Neverland (2004)- this would mark her feature debut as director and screenwriter.
Williams is best known for her TV work on the HBO phenom Thrones as well as cult fave Doctor Who. The actress will next be seen opposite Jason Sudeikis (Sleeping with Other People) in next year’s The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.
