Gal Gadot on Her Upcoming Role in ‘Cleopatra’ Biopic

Gal Gadot, who is set to star in Kari Skogland’s Cleopatra biopic about the Egyptian Queen, talks to InStyle about the film. The film will be a periodical drama and will be produced by Paramount Pictures, Atlas Entertainments Charles Roven, Jenkins, Gadot, and her Pilot Wave Motion Pictures partner Jaron Varsano.

The film intends to capture the Queen’s story as a tale of female empowerment, told by women. The 1963 film, starring Elizabeth Taylor, cost more than any other film at the time and nearly bankrupted Century Fox. Despite that, the obsession with the historic Queen within Hollywood has remained intact, allowing for filmmakers to dive into a modern-day biopic of Cleopatra.

The new film intends to follow the story of her life, from her relationship with Julius Caesar, the brutal war, Rome’s fixation on her, and Caesar’s eventual fixation on Cleopatra that led to her rule over Egypt and her complicated relationship with Rome.

When asked about the film, Gadot told InStyle, “I can’t reveal a lot, but I can tell you that we’re going to celebrate the Cleopatra story. We’re going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had and still has on the world we’re living in today. I’ve watched all the Cleopatra movies throughout history, but I feel like we’re telling the story the world needs to hear now.”
