Though Fox is incredibly well-known for their ensemble-led X-Men films, they have also offered up well-regarded movies headlined by famous characters. In the past few years, both Deadpool and Logan (which center around Wade Wilson and Wolverine respectively) have risen to the top of the heroic genre, even capturing the interest of audiences and critics who tend to be less responsive to comic book films.
Now, it looks like a new character from the franchise will be potentially getting her own movie: Kitty Pryde, also known as Shadowcat. In what seems to be a continuing trend, she is being drawn from the previous X-Men films (the same procedure which Wolverine and Deadpool also went through, having originally appeared in X-Men and X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Tim Miller, known for his extensive work in Deadpool, is currently leading this effort to bring Pryde to her own feature film, though it’s possible that this endeavor will not result in a movie at all.
It will also be interesting to see the treatment of canon in the movie, as the X-Men movies are famous for contradicting and even conscious rewriting their past, which is especially notable in the time-travelling plot of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
As of now, there’s a lot still up in the air, including the possible release date and whether or not Ellen Page will reprise her role as Pryde.
