By now many DC comic fans are well-aware of the failure that was 2017’s Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon. The much-anticipated film was meant to reach Avengers-like stature when it came out, but Warner Bros adopted a quicker approach to developing their characters that led to a box office flop. Not long after the film disappointed fans, there were rumblings that a potential directors cut, or “ Snyder Cut,” was written and developed. Supposedly, the Snyder Cut was stripped down and the end result was shown in theaters.
The following demand to “release the Synder Cut” has gained so much attention that even Zack Snyder has made mention of the fact that his movie was altered in comparison to what we got in theaters. While fans have been eager to find the existence of the mystery cut, not much outside of tidbits from Snyder have suggested anything promising.
Most recently in an interview with Lights, Camera, Pod, actor Jesse Eisenberg stated of the cut’s release “ I have no idea. No clue.” Interestingly, Eisenberg then recalled, “I think I was in some other scenes too, but… I guess they’re not in the movie,” implying that his brief post-credits appearance at the end of Justice League was originally a part of something much larger. He then added, “I know some of the stuff they were doing was amazing… the writer, Chris Terrio– so I read his original draft, and yeah there’s stuff that probably is not in the movie.”
Eisenberg’s statements only add to further debate of the much desired cut of Justice League. At the moment, it doesn’t seem likely that fans will find the answers they are looking for. Nothing is ever set in stone though, so maybe somewhere down the line Warner Bros will release something to let fans know that another cut exist.
