Focus Features Dates Tom Ford’s ‘Nocturnal Animals’

The upcoming dramatic thriller Nocturnal Animals, written and directed by Tom Ford (A Single Man), has just received release date right in the heart of awards season. The forthcoming movie, starting its limited theatrical engagement on November 18th, features an enviable ensemble cast headed by Amy Adams (American Hustle) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler). The film is an adaptation of Austin Wright’s novel Tony and Susan.

The film centers around an art gallery owner who is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel, which she interprets as a veiled threat and a symbolic revenge tale. The ensemble cast includes Armie Hammer (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Isla Fisher (The Great Gatsby), Michael Shannon (99 Homes), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Karl Glusman (Stonewall).

Focus Features is distributing the film and clearly sees awards hopes on the project – Ford’s previous film A Single Man earned Colin Firth an Oscar nomination as well as heaps of praise on that movie’s design elements. Focus also has another potential awards player in Loving, Jeff Nichols’ fact-based drama which recently earned a warm critical reception at the Cannes Film Festival – Loving bows on November 4th.

The plan for now is for Nocturnal Animals to open in limited engagement on November 18th (likely just in New York and Los Angeles), before expanding over the Thanksgiving holiday and bowing wide on December 9th.
