As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, a trailer for Focker In-Law was released at CinemaCon with stars Robert De Niro (Joker, Killers of the Flower Moon) and Ben Stiller (Zoolander, Night at the Museum).
Stiller dives into a fifteen year gap between the third and fourth film to be the same age as De Niro’s character was in the first film. He jokes “I guess you could say I’m the new De Niro of the franchise.”
De Niro, who was right beside him at CinemaCon stated, “Don’t say that. It’s very disrespectful. You made a very unflattering comparison that forced me to defend my honor.”
The film will be starring De Niro, Stiller, Ariana Grande (Wicked, Victorious), Blythe Danner (The Lucky One, I’ll See You in My Dreams), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart, Lady Bird), Teri Polo (The Phantom of the Opera, The Fosters). Skyler Gisondo (Vacation, Santa Clarita Diet) and Owen Wilson (Cars, Wedding Crashers).
Focker In-Law focuses on Gisondo who plays Henry, the son of Polo and Stiller’s characters and his new found relationship with Olivia, played by Grande. The trailer opens up with a reference to the first film as Grande is strapped to a lie detector. Tension rises in the trailer as De Niro is quick to accept Grande’s character over Stiller’s.
Even off screen, De Niro states to Stiller about Grande, “She got an Oscar nomination. How many of those do you have?” He proceeded to say that he didn’t write that line.
The film will be released November 27 in theaters. Watch the trailer below:
