As stated by Deadline, Florence Pugh (Don’t Worry Darling, Little Woman) will be starring in fantasy film The Midnight Library, as well as producing. The Midnight Library is an adaptation to the 2020 novel written by Matt Haig (How to Stop Time, The Comfort Book).
Garth Davis (Lion, Mary Magdalene) will be directing and executive producing. Pugh, Anita Overland (Wild Horse Nine, Lovers Rock), Pete Czernin (The Riot Club, Seven Psychopaths), and Graham Broadbent (Some Voices, All Of Us Strangers) from Blueprint Pictures are producing. The screenplay is written by Nick Payne (Wanderlust, We Live in Time) and Laura Wade (Rivals, Tipping The Velvet). The film will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival via the Studiocanal.
Davis shares his own thoughts about working with Pugh, “I couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Florence Pugh on The Midnight Library. Her warmth and talent are magical, and together I know we’ll do something special working with Matt’s iconic novel. This is a story that moves us both — a celebration of life in all its possibility and complexity. With Graham Broadbent, Blueprint Pictures and Studiocanal behind us, I can’t wait to illuminate this adventure.”
“I am so happy that Nora’s story is in such great hands, and that her myriad possibilities will be vividly reawakened by the absolute perfect team,” said Haig, “And I can’t wait for people to see my book reimagined for the big screen.”
“We are thrilled to be working with such exceptional talent to bring Matt Haig’s deeply moving novel to the big screen in partnership with Blueprint Pictures. Garth’s film is a love letter to life, a tantalizingly powerful take on a script that gives you the immediacy and high stakes of time running out with unparalleled emotion. I cannot wait for Florence Pugh to take us on Nora’s journey as she finds her way to a profound love for life.” CEO Studiocanal and Chief Content officer of Canal+ Group Anna Marsh concluded.
The project is anticipating production to begin in early 2027. The film focuses on Nora Seed, who encounters a library of different versions of her life.
