It’s another slow weekend at the box office as the new year continues. Flight Risk lands at the box office this weekend, taking the top spot amongst other 2025 titles and holdovers from last year.
Flight Risk, with a cast led by Mark Wahlberg, follows a crew on a secured flight transporting a high-value witness, who realize the flight has been breached after several attempts have been made on the witness’s life.
Estimates for the film’s box office gross in its first outing are looking to end up around the ballpark of $11-$12 million.
Hollywood Reporter notes that the film has garnered lukewarm reviews so far. It currently sits at a 5.6 on IMDb, and a 21% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the 21% is offset by the more positive audience score of 62%.
Hollywood Reporter also noted that second place isn’t quite as clear cut yet, as first place was. Mufasa: The Lion King and One Of Them Days are neck and neck for silver. Both of them are looking to take home around $8 million.
Similarly, fifth place is a close race as well, with fourth going to Sonic The Hedgehog 3 at $5.1 million. Competing for fifth, much like the race for second, is a newer title and another 2024 holiday holdover. Both Moana 2 and Presence are looking to take home $3 million.
