The long awaited film from Blumhouse, Five Nights At Freddy’s, has finally been unveiled. Despite the time it took to make, the video game adaptation opened to immense success and immediately topped the box office charts for the weekend.
Currently, Freddy and his friends, which were made for the film by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, are looking at a colossal global total of $130 million this weekend, with $52 million coming from 64 international markets, and $78 million within the States. This makes it not only the biggest worldwide opening for Blumhouse, but as Deadline states, it’s the biggest worldwide horror opening of the year.
The total is also staggering due to the same day release on Peacock in the US, while the rest of the world sees only a theatrical release. The film took home the title of best horror opening of all time in Chile, Peru, and Uruguay.
Despite the stigma attached to same-day streaming releases, Universal sees the Peacock debut as a win-win scenario. Hollywood Reporter points out that the film is only available for the paying Peacock customers, so for those who don’t want to go to the theater, they’d have to sign up for the service to watch it from their own home.
Outside of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert movie is expected to cross $150 million domestically, with this weekend adding $15 million to its total. An impressive amount, considering it only shows from Thursdays to Sundays.
Bronze this weekend will go to Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s looking to bring in $10 million this weekend, a 57% drop from last weekend.
