After the financial success of 2019’s Aladdin remake, Guy Ritchie will be returning back to his crime genre roots with his next feature film, The Gentlemen. Based on an original screenplay by Guy Ritchie, The Gentlemen, formally known asToff Guys, centers around a drug war between the U.S. and Britain. The film features an all star cast including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant to name a few. Its first trailer was officially released today.
The trailer begins with Hugh Grant talking to Charlie Hunnam about his crime boss Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey). Pearson is a drug lord known for creating an incredibly profitable marijuana empire in London. Grant’s character explains to Hunnam that Pearson’s drug business might be in peril when a deal goes horribly wrong between Henry Golding’s team. It inevitably leads to all out drug war with a ton of action and fast paced editing that is expected from Guy Ritchie.
The Gentlemen seems to be a solid return to form for Guy Ritchie. Die hard fans of his work potentially disappointed that the Aladdin remake was not much like his other films will most likely be pleased with The Gentlemen, as it’s a British crime film with all star cast. The first trailer certainly gives off a vibe that suggests The Gentlemen will be one of the first films to look out for in the beginning of 2020.
The Gentlemen is set for release January 24th 2020. Watch the full trailer below:
