First Trailer for ‘The Northman’: Robert Eggers’ Viking Folly Starring Anya Taylor-Joy

It is no secret that Rober Eggers is one of the most refreshing filmmakers on the American scene. That’s why The Northman, his third feature film, promises to be one of the most groundbreaking titles of 2022; and, of course, it’s one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Even more so now that we can have a first look at it in the form of an amazing trailer.

The Northman marks Eggers’ reunion with two key stars from his previous films: Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) and Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse). But they’re not the only attractions in the spectacular cast of this Viking adventure. In it, we can also find Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke and none other than Björk; this is the Icelandic singer’s return to the big screen after Dancer in the Dark.

In fact, Eggers writes the screenplay for the film alongside Icelandic novelist Sjón Sigurdsson. The Northman is described as an epic revenge thriller: the suicide mission of a fierce Viking who seeks to avenge the death of his father. All this in 10th century Iceland, a setting achieved thanks to an astonishing production design; the cinematography is by the filmmaker’s usual collaborator Jarin Blaschke.

April 22, 2022 is the tentative release date for The Northman. Of course, enough time for you to watch this first trailer again and again.
