He may have only been involved as a producer and not a director, but judging by the first official trailer for The Better Angels, the movie has Terrence Malick’s fingerprints all over it. A look at the childhood of Abraham Lincoln growing up in the woods of Indiana, the film looks to have the same poetic, ethereal feel as Malick’s own movies. Not surprisingly, it was directed by A.J. Edwards, an apprentice to Malick on films like The New World, Tree of Life, and To the Wonder. The movie stars Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Diane Kruger (Troy) as the future 16th President’s parents, with Wes Bentley (American Beauty) and Brit Marling (Another Earth) also appearing. The young Lincoln is played by newcomer Braydon Denney. As reported here earlier, upstart Amplify acquired the movie for distribution after its premiere at Sundance and will be releasing it into theaters this November, with the exact date yet to be announced.
