The first trailer for Christy, the Christy Martin biopic starring Sydney Sweeney, has been released online.

The sports drama follows the life and career of World Super Welterweight Champion and Hall of Fame boxer Christy Martin, from her childhood in West Virginia to her rise to fame in the ring during the 1980s and 90s. It also examines the trials and tribulations of her personal life, including family, identity, and her declining relationship with her husband and manager Jim, which would take a dangerous turn.

The film recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, garnering praise for Sweeney’s performance, both from critics and Martin herself, who was in attendance.

Sweeney discussed her preparation for the role in an earlier interview, having gained 30 pounds with an extensive workout and diet regimen:

“I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour…My body was completely different…It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god…But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Co-written by David Michôd and Mirrah Foulkes, from a story by Katherine Fugate, and directed by Michôd, the biopic also stars Katy O’Brian, Merritt Wever, Ben Foster, Ethan Embry, Chad L. Coleman, Valyn Hall, and Tony Cavalero.

Produced and distributed by Black Bear Pictures, Christy is scheduled for theatrical release on November 7th, 2025. Check out the trailer below.
