In 2009, dark comedy and cult classic Zombieland was released to major critical and commercial success. Talks about a sequel has been ongoing for years, but director Ruben Fleischer moved on to other projects such as Venom and the main stars schedules got booked, making a sequel seem unlikely. Now 10 years after the first film, Zombieland is finally getting a sequel with the same director and cast.
The newly released first trailer (see it below) begins by re-introducing the original cast- Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone. This time the actors are introduced with the title of Academy Award Nominee (Or Winner in Stone’s Case) to show how far all of these actors’ careers have come since 2009.
We then see the ensemble enjoying the little things in life in this apocalyptic world. They explore and meet new characters including a possible love interest for Columbus (Eisenberg). There’s also a moment where Tallahassee (Harrelson) is interrogated by a mysterious lady played by Rosario Dawson. All of this is set to AC/DC’s Shoot to Thrill as we witness more zombie mayhem unfold.
The trailer ends with Tallahassee meeting up with someone eerily similar to him, played by Luke Wilson. He’s followed up by Thomas Middleditch, coming in looking almost exactly like Columbus.
Zombieland 2: Double Tap looks to be the sequel fans have been waiting for years for. It has all of the characters that were so beloved and memorable from the original film returning and a whole lot more zombie action that fans were hoping for with a sequel. It may have been a good 10 year hiatus, but the wait will be worth it if the trailer is any indication of what the final film will be like.
Zombieland 2: Double Tap is set for release on October 18th, 2019.
