First Trailer for ‘Jurassic World’ Leaks Online

Days earlier than expected, Universal has released the first full-length trailer for the highly anticipated update of the original Jurassic Park franchise. A teaser trailer was released over the weekend, but the official trailer was not expected to drop until later this week. This expanded version shows us a reopened and updated version of the formerly shuttered dinosaur-themed park, upgraded for optimum consumer appeal (think a prehistoric Disney or Sea World).

21 years after the first film in the franchise, we revisit John Hammond’s (Sir Richard Attenborough from the original series) dream project, now a family and school trip entertainment venue. The park is a great commercial success, but behind the scenes, scientists are experimenting with genetics to create hybrid dinos with great intelligence and killer instincts. Previously we covered the production still and publicity photos that appeared on the movie’s official site last week. The new trailer doesn’t reveal the newest hybrid dinosaur itself, but definitely conveys the dangers the park-goers face when it manages to escape.

Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help) topline the cast. Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) directs from his own screenplay, based of course on the ideas and characters of original author Michael Crichton. Trevorrow has teased the idea of additional sequels, saying earlier this year that he wanted to create “something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story.”

Jurassic World is set for a May 12, 2015 release date.
