The first trailer for John Turturro’s sexy romantic comedy Fading Gigolo has arrived. People were biting their nails about two guys over fifty doing a movie about sex, but the buzz off the first trailer is two thumbs up, and the film has just been added to the Toronto Film Festival for a September debut.
John Turturro is a familiar actor (The Transformers series, Brother, Where For Art Thou?), but Fading Glory is also the fifth film he has directed, the others being: Mac, Illuminata, Romance & Cigarettes (with the late James Gandolfini), and Passione. Turturro wrote Fading Gigolo and stars alongside friend Woody Allen as two cash-strapped buddies who decide to enter the world’s oldest profession. This is the first time in thirteen years that Woody Allen has starred in a film he hasn’t directed, the last being Picking Up the Pieces for Alfonso Arau.
John Turturro and Woody Allen star as Fiorvante and Murray, who decide they can make some fast cash with Fiorvante’s sexual prowess. Murray gets the ball rolling by word of mouth at the local deli, and soon Fiorvante has been set up with Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) and Sharon Stone (Casino, Basic Instinct) for a threesome including sex toys.
The plan is working until Fiorvante unexpectedly falls in love with a Hasidic widow, played by Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp’s ex-partner), and word of his skin trade occupation enrages the entire Orthodox Jewish community. Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Slat, Ray Donovan) plays a Rabbi who steps in to mediate.
Jeffrey Levy-Hinte, Bill Block, and Paul Hanson are producing, along with Sasha Shapiro, Anton Lessine, and Bart Walker executive producing with Antidote Films.
Premiering at the TIFF in September, Fading Gigolo is expected to make its way into the busy fall release schedule.
