The international trailer for David Robert Mitchell’s horror-thriller It Follows has surfaced. The film played at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as Fantastic Fest, receiving acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Starring Maika Monroe (The Guest), the film tells the story of a girl who begins to have strange visions along with a disturbing dread that she’s being pursued after a seemingly harmless sexual encounter.
The film also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in the year, and has been making the rounds on the festival circuit where it has gathered respectable buzz, having many anticipating it as a must-see horror film. For director Mitchell, who previously helmed The Myth of the American Sleepover, this horror follow-up to his 2010 dramedy comes as something of a surprise.
Monroe, on the other hand, has had another one of her genre films see noticeable festival success with Adam Wingard’s The Guest. That film also played at Fantastic Fest earlier in the year to satisfied audiences.
The trailer for It Follows hits all the right notes in divulging a haunting, melodic sense of terror and atmosphere without going too much into key plot points or stories. It teases with just enough disturbing imagery, and a mysterious, cryptic voiceover.
It Follows will be released by Radius-TWC into U.S. theaters in early 2015, with an expected VOD release date announced soon.
