The first trailer has dropped for Five Feet Apart, the film that seems to be looking to revive the emotions of The Fault in Our Stars with a new story and a new romance for audiences to cling onto. Haley Lu Richardson (Edge of Seventeen) and Cole Sprouse (TV’s Riverdale) star in the film directed by Jane the Virgin actor Justin Baldoni in his feature directorial debut.
The story follows Stella Grant (Richardson), a seemingly normal 17-year-old girl, caught up in her friendships as well as the internet. What’s unique is that Stella has cystic fibrosis (referred to as CF in the trailer) for which she has to undergo frequent treatments at the hospital. During one of these treatments, she meets a fellow CF patient, Will Newman (Sprouse), who charms her. The two develop a relationship that is restricted by a rule that they need to remain at least five feet apart in order to avoid catching infection from each other.
Claire Forlani, Moises Arias and Kimberly Hebert Gregory also star.
From the looks of the trailer, it seems that this film might actually have a happy ending, although audiences may end up being psyched out like they were with TFioS.
Regardless, it looks like the film will be an emotional and quippy rollercoaster when it hits theaters on March 22, 2019.
