Fans of the beloved science-fiction-comedy series Ghostbusters must wait no longer. We finally get a glimpse of the reboot in the first full trailer. A few weeks ago a short teaser trailer was released where only a few small clips of the new team were revealed. Now we see ghosts, demons, and the women in action. Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) and Melissa McCarthy (The Heat) star as two physicists who handle the more scientific aspects of the Ghostbusters, while Kate McKinnon stars as the engineer, and Leslie Jones as the more street-savvy member. It seems like a good team, especially with the unlikely addition of the male secretary played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor).
The trailer reveals a massive influx of cooly-designed ghosts that inhabit New York City, as well as shows the sometimes unconventional methods of dealing with them, but that’s a classic trademark of the original films, which is a comforting feeling to see that director Paul Feig (Spy) is sticking somewhat to the ideas that made them so great. McCarthy is the only one of the team who doesn’t hail from a Saturday Night Live background, although she has had plenty of time spent with the other three actresses in a multitude of hilarious films and SNL hosting gigs.
Feig is a smart choice to helm this sensitive reboot, having had his past three films be female-centric (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy) and do significantly well among both audiences and critics. Ghostbusters has only a few months before its release this summer and fortunately it looks like it will be worth the wait for both diehard fans and newcomers alike. Check out the official trailer below.
Ghostbusters will hit theaters on July 15, 2016.
