Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s reinterpretation of Mary Shelley’s Bride of Frankenstein, titled The Bride! This reinterpretation, set in Chicago in the 1930s, centers around a lonely Frankenstein, played by Christian Bale, who recruits a scientist named Dr. Euphronios to create a female companion for him. The film follows the love story between Frankenstein and his new female companion, created with the resurrected body of a recently murdered woman, played by Jessie Buckley, as they go on a murderous crime spree in a story that’s described as being akin to crime-filled romance films like Bonnie and Clyde and Wild at Heart.
Along with Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, the film stars Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penelope Cruz. Maggie Gyllenhaal directed the film and wrote the screenplay. It is her sophomore feature, her first being 2021’s The Lost Daughter. The film is executive produced by Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.
The Bride was initially greenlit as a Netflix production before being moved to Warner Bros. Warner Bros. will release the film internationally starting March 4, 2026, and in the United States on March 6, 2026, in standard and IMAX theaters.
