Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) is set to anchor her first Hollywood spectacle in the upcoming reboot of the popular video game franchise Tomb Raider. Vikander portrays Lara Croft, a role famously portrayed by Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). Vanity Fair provides the first images from the currently filming production, complete with Vikander in iconic-Croft attire: tank and cargo pants.

The role marks what’s been a busy few years for the Swedish-born actress. In 2015, she neared international stardom with a string of critically admired roles that expressed the versatility of the budding star. They included turns in the period drama Testament of Youth, a posh turn in the mod spy thriller The Man From U.N.C.L.E., an Oscar-winning turn in The Danish Girl and a seemingly iconic one as the ambiguous android at the center of the cult, Oscar-winning hit Ex Machina. Vikander tested her action-blockbuster bonafides last summer, appearing alongside Matt Damon in Jason Bourne.
