Moviegoers can finally return to Pandora. The first trailer for the upcoming Avatar: Fire And Ash has been released online. After dealing with a loss in the aftermath of Avatar: The Way Of Water, Fire And Ash finds Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully and the rest of his family struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives once again. Unbeknownst to them, Jake’s old enemy Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, is still trying to tear them apart, aligning himself with a vicious tribe of Na’vi. This new deadly alliance could spell certain doom for the family, and could be the very thing that will tear them apart.
With only two minutes of footage shown, the trailer promises plenty of the scale that director James Cameron is known for. Right from the start, viewers get a glimpse of familiar Pandoran vistas, between the Hallelujah Mountains and the Metkayina village. Further in, a good look is given at the home of the Ash Clan, the Na’vi group that Quaritch works with. Living inside a volcano, fans can glean information on the new adversaries from both their burnt and barren home, as well as their leader, Oona Chaplin’s Varang.
Hollywood Reporter notes that the reactions to the trailer are already highly positive across the board. A user on X commented on the “real sense of doom and rage — fist fights inside of cosmic volcanoes, heroes terrified, huge aerial battles,” while Rotten Tomatoes critic Austin Burke raved about the visuals and story on display. He continued, “epic doesn’t feel like it does this trailer justice… It is truly beyond epic. THE HYPE IS REAL.”
While keeping some surprises for the final film, the teaser gives a look at the story for Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri. Still coming to grips with the death of her son, she’s gone down a very dangerous road, taking the ruthless option against her enemies whenever possible. It even gets to the point where Jake has to tell her she can’t continue to live in hate, leading up to what seems to be a confrontation between her and Varang.
Avatar: Fire And Ash hits theaters December 19th. Check out the trailer below.
